This 17-inch, liquid crystal digital television set from LG is capable of delivering a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels but has a somewhat modest viewing angle of 160 degrees. Being an economy unit, you won’t find this model to be packed with fancy features like LG’s XD Engine, but if you’re looking at a 17-inch model you’re probably not hungry for features, or at least you’re willing to overlook them. It does however come 3D Digital Comb Filter equipped and enhanced noise reduction is standard.

The 17LS5R is equipped with NICAM stereo decoding for great stereo sound and two under mounted speakers. While this LG television set is not the end-all, be-all model of the television world with respect to sound, it will likely perform very well in its intended role. A headphone jack is included so if you are looking for improved sound you can buy a good set of headphones.

Connectivity is pretty good on this model considering it’s on the low end of the scale regarding size and price. The 17LS5R includes one RF antenna input, composite AV ports, one SCART interface, component and PC connections, and of course S-Video. Another connectivity feature that can be found on this LG model is a port for headphone output so you can enjoy what you’re viewing in relative silence.

LG lists the lifespan for this set at 40,000 hours. This will give you just under 1700 days of uninterrupted use. Of course, you’re not likely to put this to the test. Under normal operating parameters you can expect to get well over 4 years of satisfactory use from this unit.

As would be expected, this unit comes with the standard lot of features as well, including parental control, enhanced noise reduction, wall mount option, and so on. LG gets the aesthetics right on most of their products, and this television set is no exception. Ultimately, the LG 17LS5R is a satisfactory solution for anyone looking to buy a new digital television set without springing for a gigantic, high-end model.
