The Panasonic TH-37PX7B gives you a 37-inch, High Definition, plasma image at a resolution of 1024 x 720 pixels in a maximum of 29 billion colors. This digital television is a good choice for the shopper who wants a high quality, mid-sized plasma set. By way of Panasonic’s HD Optimizer technology, it can deliver a superbly clear and crisp image.

When it comes to connectivity, the TH-37PX7B offers a somewhat meager array of options. The model carries only one HDMI input, one component video input, a 21-pin input, and an RCA left and right audio input set! That’s it. No SCART ports are listed in the specifications given by the Panasonic website, nor is there mention of an RF input.

In the sound department this 37-inch LCD model isn’t going to shake your living room, but it will likely perform well in small to mid-sized rooms. It includes two built in 10-watt speakers with two 10-watt audio outputs to match, as well a set of RCA left and right outputs. The speakers are full range, at least, so you’ll hear all of the highs and lows, just not at seat rumbling levels.

A life expectancy is not given for this model specifically, however the Panasonic UK website denotes that modern standards put the lifespan of most models in both the plasma and LCD categories at around 60,000 hours. That comes to just about 360 weeks of continuous use, but that kind of wear is unlikely. If you watch television for four hours per day, seven days a week, a modern digital television set like the TH-37PX7B should last for roughly 40 years according to my calculations! There will most definitely be new broadcast and display technologies available for mass consumption before these things stop working, barring some kind of defect and assuming that Panasonic’s estimates are correct.

Of course this unit is packed with features as well. If you read off the list of features aloud, it very much sounds like a whirlwind of proprietary technologies — and it is. Each of them is designed to improve your viewing experience in one way or another. The list for this model includes NICAM broadcast stereo reception, and variable screen aspects including 16:9, 14:9, 4:3, Zoom 1, Zoom 2, and Zoom 3. Also included are Panasonic’s Advanced 3D Colour Management, Motion Pattern Noise Reduction, and VIERA Link.

If you’re in the market for a 37-inch plasma television, the Panasonic TH-37PX7B is certainly a good choice to consider.
