A matching viewing angle of 176-degrees is about the only feature that the Sharp LC32AD5E shares in common with its 20-inch little brother, and that’s a good thing for sure. At 32-inches this 16:9, HD Ready display can deliver a crisp and stunning image at a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Connectivity and audio are both improved over the smaller member of the AD5E family from Sharp Electronics UK.
If you’ve got devices aplenty you’ll be happy to see that there are more options available for interconnectivity with the LC32 than with smaller models in the AD5E line. This model carries two SCART ports, two HDMI ports, standard AV inputs, a PC AV connection, and a Common Interface slot. S-Video would be nice, but as with most decade-old technologies, it may not be around long enough to matter.
The panel is given a 60,000 hour lifespan which is somewhere around the industry norm. There are digital televisions with incrementally shorter life expectancies. What does sixty thousand hours of operation translate to in more tangible terms? Well, precisely 2500 days, 6.84 years, 82 months, or 328 weeks — whichever best sums it up for you. The bottom line is that you are safe to assume that any digital television you buy today will still be in fine working order by the time a new technology puts you back in the market for another one, so long as you don’t abuse it or find that it has a defect of some sort.
For sound we see another marked improvement over the 20-inch, where the LC32AD5E shows perhaps the greatest improvement overall. Up from two 2-watt speakers and outputs, this model boasts two 10-watt speakers and matching output. That’s a five hundred percent increase in audio output power! Still, there is no optical output for digital surround sound systems, but where Sharp makes up for leaving this out is in their inclusion of Freeview broadcast compatibility. Free content often trumps the lack of features with consumer products, and the LC32AD5E from Sharp Electrnics UK is no exception.
